Rebecca Moore Profile

Rebecca Moore is a master of dance- that’s what her diploma says anyway.  She is our most educated member with an MFA from Sarah Lawrence.  We can’t wait till she decides to get her PHD in dance so we can call her Doctor Moore.  Oddly she seems to be our youngest member at least in my mind. (Maybe it’s because she can turn herself into a newborn in the shadow world.)  She is mercurial and unpredictable, capable of flights of creativity one moment and more academic observations the next. Just when you think she is the esteemed Dr. Moore, she turns into a mischievous Mrs. Hide and Go Seek.  She does not suffer fools and yet when she wants to play the fool, she is hilarious.  She keeps us on our toes and looking over our shoulders.  Rebecca has started her own company, Rebecca Moore Dance and is making new work all the time.

Other jobs you have held besides dance

I was a papergirl throughout high school and had to wake up early EVERY single morning to bike around with my heavy satchel full of 'The Morning Call' newspapers. It paid, like, 2 dollars a day. And my customers thought I was a paperboy.

Strangest performing job you ever did

I've done all sorts of strange and weird performances in my lifetime and I love that. Like once I was in a superhero dance and threw imaginary energy balls at other people. It was actually pretty funny.

Most humiliating performance job you ever did

I performed in a mall a long time ago. No, I am not a former one-hit-wonder, teeny-bopper star from Canada. It's just that people didn't really pay attention to our dance and continued along shopping.

Most dangerous performance job you ever did

I have never had a dangerous performing job. I experience more danger in my everyday life because I live on the wild side. You know how we roll in Connecticut. (Just kidding).

Most terrifying moment in your life

Rafting down a 25 foot waterfall in New Zealand. It's an event that I voluntarily put myself through. Hey, aren't there any prompts here where you get to tell people how smart you are?

Most amazing moment in your life

Getting married and sharing my wedding day with all of my closest family and friends! Way to go Jon!

Physical fitness routine

Dance Improvisation, Ballet Class, Rehearsals, Yoga,
Running, Cycling, Swimming, Hiking

Diet

General Food Choices
I generally choose vegetarian options over meat, but sometimes I just like to sink my teeth into a steak. Wholesome, unprocessed foods, and home cooked meals are very important to me.

Guilty Pleasures
 Anything rich, chocolate, or fried.

Favorite or Specialty recipe of yours
I am a Souper-Woman! I like to make and eat soups. But I also make cold grain and veggie salads all the time. Start with quinoa or Israeli couscous, add chopped veggies like peppers, tomatoes, onions, cucumber, fresh herbs, and maybe some feta cheese. Dress with a lemon-olive oil vinaigrette. This dish has a structure  but the creative choices are endless!

Secrets for staying thin
Dancing constantly brings you on and off your balance and diet and exercise can sometimes do that too. But it's essential to make smart choices, eat well, and avoid food-like substances. Exercise pretty much every day. I don't stress about it because I find joy in doing these things.

Special or unusual skills:

MFA in Dance. I consider this a special thing.

Primary Dance Training

Anatomy, Ballet, Contemporary Technique, Contact Improvisation,

Other unusual training

Certified in SCUBA Diving
Pole Vaulting
